Holding the Coordination Meeting No.1/2022 of the Union Coordinating Body for Rule of Law Centres and Justice Sector Affairs

The meeting No. 1/2022 of the Union Coordinating Body for Rule of Law Centres and Justice Sector Affairs was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 9:00 a.m. this morning.
In delivering an opening speech, the Union Minister and Union Attorney General, Chairperson of the UCB, said that the State Administration Council formed the Union Coordinating Body for Rule of Law Centres and Justice Sector Affairs (UCB) with 15 members by notification No. 189/2021 on 19.62021; the Sub-Coordinating Bodies (Sub-CBs) were formed with 9 members in each Region or State; the further meetings of the Central Body and State and Region Sub-Coordinating Bodies are going to be held; the current meeting was held for the first time during the State Administration Council’s term; as the Ministry of Legal Affairs plays a key role in the Union Government, it formulated the strategic plans: “Moving Forward to the Rule of Law” 2015-2019 and “Providing Legal Service for Justice” 2020-2024 in order to more effectively coordinate with respective ministries for people’s access to justice in relation to legislative, executive and judicial sectors; one of the strategies of the Ministry of Legal Affairs includes “Justice Sector Coordination”; in addition to the said two Strategic Plans, the Strategic Plan of the Union Coordinating Body for Rule of Law Centres and Justice Sector Affairs (UCB) is “Justice for People”; Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in relation to justice for people was published during the term of former government; and the UCB must proceed with its works although there have been constraints and challenges in implementing its tasks. Also, she urged the attendees to discuss how the UCB is adaptable to the current situation.
Then, the attendees discussed the strategic initiatives for improving justice coordination, organising legal awareness campaigns and building public trust and confidence.
The Chairperson, the Vice-chairperson and members of the Union Coordinating Body for Rule of Law Centres and Justice Sector Affairs (UCB) attended the meeting.
