Holding the 13th Meeting of the Legal Translation Commission Working Committee and Working Groups

The 13th meeting of the Legal Translation Commission Working Committee and Working Groups was held at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 9:00 a.m. this morning.

In the meeting, H.E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Chairperson of the Legal Translation Commission, said that this was the 6th meeting while she takes the responsibility as the Chairperson of the Commission; during this period, three books, namely, Book No. 9, Book No. 10 and Book No.ll were published and the Penal Code has been published in the Myanmar version only, as well as in the Myanmar-English version; the Trust Act will soon be published as Book No.12.

The Commission has translated and approved 32 laws out of the 81 laws that are under their responsibility for translation and the Commission will continue to discuss and approve the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Code of Civil Procedure and the Evidence Act which are being practiced as crucial procedural laws similar to the Penal Code.

The meeting will discuss the following 8 laws: The Destruction of Records Act, The State Grants Act, The Explosive Substances Act, The Bankers’ Books Evidence Act, The Mussalman Wakf Validating Act, The Hindu Law of Inheritance Amendment Act, The Hindu Gains of Learning Act and The Unlawful Associations Act and the Chairperson has urged the Commission to discuss and provide advice to ensure accurate translations of these laws.

The members of the Legal Translation Commission, Working Committee and Working Groups attended and discussed the meeting and the duration of the meeting will be three days.
