H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union received adelegation led by Ms. Yanhee Lee, UN special rapporteur on the situation ofhuman rights in Myanmar at the meeting room of the Union AttorneyGeneral’s Office at 08:00 a.m. this morning.
During that meeting, Ms. Yanhee Lee said that she was pleased tomeet the Attorney General of the Union and heard about the signing of theMemorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation for the Rule of Law andHuman Rights between the UAGO and Denmark and the cooperation withrespective agencies under the United Nations. And, she discussed on thematters of whether there would be an arrangement to cooperate between theUAGO and the OHCHR, the situation of the development of justice reform, combating corruption, drafting a bill on the Prevention of Violence againstWomen and the situation in respect of the Unlawful Association Act.
Then, the Attorney General of the Union explained that the UAGOhad been conducting on the matters of the administration of justiceaccording to the law, the access to fair and correct justice and theadministration of justice without delay for the development of the justicesector; the formation of Rule of Law Centers in the Region or State and theCoordination Body in justice sectors; signing the MOU with theinternational organizations and setting the work plan for the rule of law andhuman rights; trainings of the matters of human rights to be added indrafting the bill; the cooperation with the UAGO and the OHCHR bysending law officers to attend the human rights trainings held by theOHCHR; the actions taken by the Anti-Corruption Commission; noprohibition of the right of the prisoner to meet his defense counsel; havingbeen advised the draft law on the Prevention of Violence against Women tothe relevant ministry. He also explained hope to continue the discussion atthe Hluttaws in respect of the Unlawful Association Act.
H.E. U Win Myint, Deputy Attorney General and Director Generals also attended this meeting.
