Holding the Final Coordination Meeting for the Enactment of the Adaptation of Expressions Law (Draft)

2 May, Nay Pyi Taw

The final coordination meeting for the enactment of the Adaptation of Expressions Law (draft) was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.

The Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union H.E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General Dr. Htain Lin Oo, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Dr. Tin Htut and responsible persons, Director General of the Legislative Vetting Department Dr. Thida San and responsible persons attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Dr. Tin Htut discussed that the Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics was formed as the Settlement and Land Records Department under the Ministry of Revenue on 15-11-1906; the name “the Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics” was changed according to the decision of the Union Government Meeting No. 2/2015 held on 15-1-2015, to conform with international usage; however, the said law (draft) is written to change the name as specified in laws, rules, orders and directives to “the Settlement and Land Records Department,” aligning it with the initial processes of the Department, and “the Settlement and Land Records Department” is mentioned in Schedule 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of the UnionOf M 2008;

the Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union H.E.Dr. Thida Oo said that it is inappropriate for each relevant Ministry to enact the Adaptation of Expressions Law; it should carry out another appropriate way for changing the expression “the Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics” contained in laws, rules, orders and directives to “the Settlement and Land Records Department” instead of enacting a new law to be conformed with procedures, and they decided on the most appropriate way to proceed.
