H.E. Dr. Htein Lin Oo, the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, attended the 16th ASEAN Political-Security Community Coordination Conference

H.E. Dr. Htein Lin Oo, the incumbent chairperson of the ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM), Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Deputy Attorney-General, attended and delivered the speech at the 16th Coordinating Conference for the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia, on May 9.
At the conference, H.E. Dr. Htein Lin Oo, the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General, said that Myanmar has successfully hosted the 12th ASEAN Law Ministers Meeting and the 22nd ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting as the chairperson; the members who attended the meeting of ASEAN law officials proposed some priority areas for cooperation between the ASEAN Secretariat and the Association of Legal Experts in ASEAN; based on that proposal, the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Law Association are cooperating to provide courses related to resolving disputes between investor and states; in addition, discussions on the annexe protocol of the ASEAN Protocol on Enhanced Dispute Settlement Mechanism are expected to be held this year; after the approval of the plans to deliver the courses, ASEAN countries will be invited to participate in the training; the working groups of the ASEAN Senior Law Officials meeting are conducting the necessary discussions for the issuance of the ASEAN Trade Law; similarly, in relation to the draft of the ASEAN Agreement on Extradition, the working groups of the ASEAN Senior Law Officials will conduct the fourth reading of the document and approve it within this year; if the ASEAN Agreement on Extradition is approved, it will pave the way for establishing a framework to combat transnational crimes and facilitate legal collaboration among ASEAN member states; when Myanmar is chairing the meeting of ASEAN Senior Law Officials, it take the Leadership role in achieving success of Fundamental e legal issues of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Roadmap.
Additionally, representatives from each member state and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat discussed the implementation of the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) roadmap and other expectations regarding the ASEAN community.
