Holding the Final Coordination Meeting for the Enactment of the Law Amending the Road Transport Operations Law (Draft)

The coordination meeting for the enactment of the Law Amending the Road Transport Operations Law (Draft) was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 10:00 A.M. this morning.

The Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union H.E. Dr. T hida 00, the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General Dr. Htain Lin 00, the Deputy Minister U Aung Myaing of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Director General of the Legislative Vetting Department Dr. T hida San and responsible persons, Director General of the Department of Transport Planning U T hint Myant Thu attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union addressed that the legislative vetting process may have weakness since only our department is performing it at this moment. Therefore, this meeting was held not to enact new law or make unnecessary amendment and amendment will only be made under necessary circumstances.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Transport and Comminations discussed that the existing the Road Transport Operations Law was enacted in 2016 by Pyidaungsu Hluttaw as Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No. 3. To be consistent with the current situation and in order to perform effectively the Ministry of Transport and Communications requires alignment with the amended names of Ministry and Department, providing for ‘fine’ which is not provided in the existing law to impose administrative penalties and step by step appeal process. Then, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union discussed that the amendment of the Road Transport Operations Law (draft) is necessary to enact in consistence with the current situation and finalized the discussion for enacting the amendment law (draft).
