Holding the Final Coordination Meeting for the Enactment of the Myanmar Coast Guard Law(Draft)

The final coordination meeting for the enactment of the Myanmar Coast Guard Law (draft) was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 10:00 a.m. this morning.

The Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union H.E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Defence Major General Ko Lay, Director General of the Coast Guard Brigadier General Tat Lwin Tun, Director General of the Legislative Draft Vetting Department Dr. Thida San and the responsible persons attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union H.E.Dr.Thida Oo delivered the opening speech and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Defence Major General Ko Lay presented that the Myanmar Coast Guard Law (draft) is drafted aiming to perform maritime safety within the water boundary from the internal waters of the State to the exclusive economic zone, to protect the national interest of maritime affairs, to implement the rule of law for maritime affairs, to perform effective search and sea rescue and to prevent illegal maritime activities, illegal settlements including illegal entry and piracy.

The Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union H.E. Dr. Thida Oo discussed that the Myanmar Coast Guard Law (draft) is necessary for the security, rule of law, and prevention of transnational crimes within the territorial sea of Myanmar and finalized discussion on the Law (draft) to be enacted.
