The Final Coordination Meeting for the enactment of the Law Amending the Legal Practitioners Act (Draft) was held at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Legal Afffairs, Nay Pyi Taw at 10:00 a.m.
H.E.Dr.Thida 00, the Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union, _Dr.Htain Lin 00 , the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Daw Khin May Yee, Judge of the Union Supreme Court, Dr. Kyi Kyi Than Aung, Director General of Legislative Vetting Department, Daw Tin Nwe Soe, Director General of the Office of the Supreme Court of the Union and the officials attended this meeting:
At the meeting, the Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union delivered the opening remark. Then, Daw Khin May Yee, Judge of the Union Supreme Court discussed that the Legal Practitioners Act should be amended to prohibit appearing in cases as a lawyer before the court and performing as a lawyer outside the court by accepting power of attorney from clients by persons who have been dismissed as lawyers; to prevent persons who appear in cases from acting as lawyers without having the right to act as lawyers; to impose effective penalties on case brokers; and H.E.Dr.Thida 00, the Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union discussed that the Legal Translation Commission has translated and prescribed the laws into the Myanmar version; that the laws written in the English version, which are original laws have been used if points of disagreement arise; the Legal Translation Commission has officially translated the Legal Practitioners Act and has been discussed amending the Myanmar version and that the amended points of the amendment law (draft) are actually necessary points in practice and that it is necessary to amend this law in order to support the Rule of Law of the State. Therefore, a final discussion was held to coordinate its enactment.
