Launching Ceremony of Fair Trial Standards Guidebook

H.E U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union delivered  opening speech at the launching ceremony of Fair Trial Standards Guidebook in Hilton hotel, Nay Pyi Taw at 09:00am today.

During the ceremony, he said that this ceremony is the introduction for launching the Fair Trial Standards Guidebook for law officers. Rule of law plays an important role in reform processes of Myanmar; it is the cornerstone of the public security and entitlement to fundamental rights, and vitally important for the development of the country. He also said that rule of law and the enhancement of the socio-economic of the public are the prior goals of the Union Government; the Union Attorney General’s Office has been implementing strategic plan (2015-2019) with the objective of “Moving Forward to the Rule of Law”, therefore, Fair Trial Standards Guidebook is published to promote rule of law by following Fair Trial Standards in carrying out prosecution works which is a part of the justice sector reform in Myanmar. Moreover, he said that these standards will provide valuable standards of judiciary such as independence, impartiality, integrity and justice; law officers can carry out prosecution works effectively and safeguard individual rights in accordance with law by applying these standards and public confidence in judiciary will also be promoted. In addition, he said that these standards will provide justice to victims and accused persons, and strengthen the development of fair trial system. Then, Daw Khin Cho Ohn, the Director General of the Prosecution Department discussed the facts contained in the Fair Trial Standards Guidebook.

Union Ministers, the Deputy Attorney General, members of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, chairpersons and secretaries of Pyithu Hluttaw Committees and Amyotha Hluttaw Committees and members of Parliament, members of Legal Affairs and Special Cases Assessment Commission, special guests, the permanent secretaries and Directors General of ministries and Union level organisations, persons responsible from UNDP and IDLO, Advocate Generals and law officers from Regions and States, representatives from NGOs and INGOs, the development partners, representatives of civil society organisations and invited guests, also attended this ceremony.
