Holding the First Meeting of the Myanmar Report Preparation Working Committee on Implementation of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Recommendations

The first meeting of the Myanmar Report Preparation Working Committee on implementation of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Recommendations was held in the meeting hall of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 10:00 a.m. this morning. The Attorney General of the Union U Tun Tun Oo, the Chairman of Working Committee, delivered a keynote address at this meeting.

       In his keynote address, the Attorney General of the Union said that Myanmar submitted UPR report in 2011 and 2015 respectively; in this regard, Myanmar accepted 166 recommendations out of 281 made by the 93 UN Member States in the Second Cycle; as Myanmar has to submit a report to OHCHR for the Third Cycle in 2020 , Myanmar is implementing the recommendations in 12 sectors by forming the National Level Committee on Implementation of UPR Recommendations led by the Vice President ( 1) U Myint Swe; the Working Committee is responsible for compiling a report based on information obtained from the relevant sectors and has to submit and discuss about the format of the report, information to be provided in the report and time frame for the report at the National Level Committee meeting after determining them; and he urged all members to discuss and suggest openly for ensuring that the report reflects inclusive improvement of human rights situation.

       Later on, Working Committee Members discussed former experience in compiling report, the best way to compile a good report and time frame for the report.

       Vice Chairmen of the Working Committee, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Home Affairs Major General Aung Thu and Deputy Minister of Ministry of Union Government U Tin Myint, Deputy Attorney General U Win Myint, Members of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, Deputy Judge Advocate General and members from government organizations also attended this meeting.
