Holding the Bar Council Meeting No. 3/2019

       The  Bar  Council  meeting  No.  3/2019  was  held  at  the  meeting  hall  in  the Attorney General Office at 10:00 am today.

       In the meeting, the Chairperson of the Bar Council, the Union Attorney GeneralH.E. U Tun Tun Oo delivered the speech. In his speech, the Union Attorney General said that the Law Amending the Bar Council Act was enacted in June of this Year; under this law, the Bar Council shall be re-formed with fifteen members including eleven Advocates who have practiced as advocates for at least 15 years and are nominated by advocates; the Supreme Court of the Union shall issue the Rules relating to election of members of the Bar Council ; the Supreme Court of the Union sent the draft Rules to the Bar Council in order to obtain comments; the working group improved on such draft in accordance with comments of the members of Yangon and Mandalay Bar Council; in today ‘s meeting, we have to discuss the improved draft and make comments; the Bar Council has been scrutinizing applications for enrolment as advocate and making recommendations and providing comments on ethics, responsibilities and rights of advocates to the Supreme Court of the Union; the Bar Council scrutinized the complaints sent to the Council including three  complaints about lawyers referred by the Pyithu Hluttaw Complaint and Petition Committee, and submitted them to the Supreme Court of the Union; in addition, the Bar Council has launched the Smart Registration Card scheme for advocates; and the Union Attorney General urged all members to endeavor to make progress in relation to the tasks of the Bar Council.

       The  Chairperson  of the  Bar  Council, the  vice-chairperson  and ten  members attended this meeting.
