H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Union Attorney General attended the ceremony of reporting on the accomplishment of the MLIS establishment project and donating the combined laws book in the meeting room of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 10 a.m. today and delivered a speech.
In addressing his speech, the Myanmar Law Information System(MLIS) which is to be supported the improvement of the rule of law prioritized in Myanmar’s reform processes was successfully launched through the UAGO’s website on May 24, 20 18; the Union Attorney General’s Office and Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA) signed a record of discussion in October, 2015 to establish such system; persons responsible from the UAGO collaborated with experts and persons responsible from the Ministry of Government Legislation(MOLEG) and Korea Law Information System (KLIS) for implementing such system; this system is a law library for law researchers, legislative drafters, legislators and legal observers as there are a lot of legal information on it; additionally, businesses could be run smoothly as entrepreneurs and foreign investors could receive fully legal information, and it could be supported the e-government process, promotion of the public legal awareness and rule of law in Myanmar.
In the remark of Ms. Lee Yoong Su, the Chief Representative of KOICA Myanmar Office, he believes that the Myanmar Law Information System (MLIS) will be supported for the rule of law and democratic reform process because the viewability of it by the civil service personnel and public; the MLIS needs the government supports as the necessity of technology and budget to develop this system, and he believes that KOICA could work together in the public service projects.
At the ceremony, Mr. Lee Sang Su, the Director General of MOLEG presented 3 sets of Myanmar existing law books that consist of 2,788 laws and subordinate laws, and the record of donation form to H. E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union.
Totally 35 persons from the Union Attorney General’s Office, MOLEG, KOICA, KLIS and Beintech Co.,Ltd, officials, experts and invited guests attended the ceremony. Then, they discussed the completion of the MLIS, maintenance and continuing support to run the Myanmar Law Information System.
