The 19th ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting ( ASLOM) and the Working Group meeting chaired , in rotation , by Myanmar are held on 5 to 7 October 2020 via video-conferencing. H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union, Dr. Thida Oo, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Thi Thi Myint, Director General and the Senior Law Officials from ASEAN 10 countries attend the meeting.
On delivering the opening speech at the meeting , H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union said that although he planned to hold the 19th ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting at Nay Pyi Taw , Myanmar this year, the meeting was held via video-conferencing due to the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak ; he thanked the members of ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM) for facilitating the meeting ; ASEAN aims to promote mutual assistance and active collaboration in the economic ,social ,cultural ,scientific and technical , and administrative fields ; the role of ASLOM is important in developing the better legal environment of each member State; the exchange of knowledge and experience of legal professions in the ASEAN region plays a key role in the development of legal matters ;ASLOM is participating in legal matters such as mutual assistanc e in criminal matters and human trafficking ; the meeting of ASLOM is a key pillar to promote legal cooperation ; the efforts of the ASLOM leaders to be honored for t he emergence of the ASEAN Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the Extradition Treaty ; and the Mutual Legal Assistance in criminal matters is important not only for the regional legal cooperation but also for the international legal cooperation.
Dr . Thida Oo, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union chairs the meeting , and ASEAN regional legal matters such as the progress on the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and ASEAN Extradition Treaty , the development of the ASEAN Trade Law, crime prevention and criminal justice, judiciary cooperation and mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal matters are going to be discussed.
