FORTH STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING FOR WORK PLANS ON THE RULE OF LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS HELD

The fourth steering committee meeting for work plans on the rule of law and human rights was held in the International Call Chamber of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 1:00 p.m. today. This meeting was co-chaired by H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union and Mr.John Nielsen, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Myanmar.

The Union Attorney General’s Office and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for work plans on the rule of law and human rights on 1st December,2016 and drew up yearly schemes of work and implemented the schemes.

In the meeting, the Attorney General of the Union said that the draft of strategic plan of the Rule of Law Centre and Justice Sector Coordinating Body was drafted, and this draft will soon be released after getting suggestions from the respective organizations, research has been conducted to implement the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) for improving human rights, it was beneficial to study the judiciary, human rights and rule of law from Denmark, continuously cooperate with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark for the rule of law, improving human rights and legal sectors. Moreover, they discussed and confirmed the detailed implementation work plans in 2019.

The Deputy Attorney General, Permanent Secretary, senior officials from the Union Attorney General’s Office, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, and the International commission of Jurists (ICJ) attended this meeting.
