Holding the Eighth Meeting of the Working Committee and Working Groups of Legal Translation Commission

The eighth meeting of the working committee and working groups of the legal translation commission was held at the Meeting Hall of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union at 10:00 a.m. this morning.

In the meeting, the Chairperson of the Legal Translation Commission, Dr. Thida 00, said that the Legal Translation Commission Law was enacted by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No. 25,2015 and the legal translation commission was formed in 2016; the legal translation commission law was enacted to translate the 81 existing Laws in English version to Myanmar version which were enacted by the Indian Parliament before the independence of Myanmar in 1947 and adopted in Myanmar; the commission translated and approved 26 laws and published up to Book No. 8; we are arranging for distribution of the Public Property Protection Act and the Court Fees Act approved by the seventh meeting, which have recently been published as Book No. 8; the State Administration Council re-formed the legal translation commission with 15 persons including the Attorney General of the Union as the Chairperson of the Commission and legal experts and subject experts as the members by the notification No. 51/2021 on 2 March 2021 to carry out the legal translation work without delay; the legal translation work of commission is separate from the legal translation work which is the primary responsibility of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union; the legal translation requires the translators to have in-depth knowledge and to think broadly; the Negotiable Instruments Act and the Land Customs Act will be discussed and approved in this meeting and she urged all members to discuss and give advice for the correctness of legal translation.

The members of the Legal Translation Commission, Working Committee and Working Groups attended the meeting. The meeting will take 2 days.
