The first meeting of the Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Committee (CIPC) was held at the meeting room of Union Attorney General’s Office at 16:30 p.m. this afternoon and H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Union Attorney General, delivered a speech.
In his speech, the Union Attorney General said that police outposts and stations and the military battalion headquarters in northern Rakhine State were attacked by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), an armed terrorist group on 25 August 2017; after that, there were clashes between the security forces and ARSA terrorist group; according to the final report of the Independent Commission of Enquiry (ICOE), during the clashes, the crimes occurred mainly in 13 locations of Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathedung townships and were committed by ARSA terrorist members and its collaborators, the security forces and crivillians; investigation relating to the crimes will be conducted; the CIPC was formed with 10 members including the Union Attorney General, the Chairperson of the Committee, by the President’s Office through the notification No. 19/ 2020 on 24 January 2020; the Committee is to investigate perpetrators of crimes during the conflicts in Rakhaine State, and take action against them in accordance with the laws, and work plans need to be discussed in this meeting.
The attendees then discuss work plans, according to recommendations in the final report of ICOE, on investigation and prosecution perpetrators of crimes during the conflicts between the security forces and ARSA terrorist group.
The Vice-Chairperson of the Committee Deputy Attorney General U Win Myint, members of the Committee and other invited persons attended the meeting.
