Holding the Opening Ceremony of the Seminar on Enhancing Prosecutorial Performance and Litigation Skills

The opening ceremony of the seminar on enhancing prosecutorial performance and litigation skills was held at the ground-floor meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs this morning.

H.E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Union Minister and the Attorney General of the Union, Directors-General, Deputy Directors-General, Directors from the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Deputy Region or State Law Officers and District Law Officers were present at the ceremony.

In delivering the opening speech, H.E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Union Minister and the Attorney General of the Union said that the Ministry of Legal Affairs has been consistently and vigorously carrying out legal awareness activities and has achieved notable outcomes; this seminar is being held to strengthen law officers’ capacities and to maintain the accuracy in their core prosecutorial functions through mutual dialogue and cooperation, alongside ongoing legal awareness for, all citizens; these functions such as providing legal advice, conducting cases before the courts and handling case completion, revisions and appeals are mainly carried out by District Law Officers; although instructions on the requirements have already been given through coordination meetings to Advocates General of the Region or State, Law Officers of the Region or State and District Law Officers, direct interaction has also become necessary, for this reason, the seminar is being organized and will be held regularly; especially, township and deputy township law officers who initially handle cases, must thoroughly understand and be proficient in the Attorney General of the Union Law, rules, orders and directives currently applied by the Ministry of Legal Affairs, as must District Law Officers and Deputy District Law Officers who supervise them; during this seminar, responsible officers from the prosecution department will facilitate the discussion on the usual functions carried out by law officers; valid and reasonable discussions may be raised regarding the policies laid down by the Ministry; as mistakes have been identified in current practices, this seminar aims to discuss these issues, to lay down and adopt consistent policies and to disseminate them to their subordinates; the Ministry has already published all of its orders and directives in a single volume; as the Attorney General of the Union Rules is going to be amended, items requiring amendments should be addressed in the seminar and with the election approaching, Law Officers of the Region or State and District Law Officers should perform their relevant duties with special focus.

It is noted that 40 law officers are attending the workshop, which will be held from 21 November to 22 November 2025.
