The 7th Meeting of the Rule of Law Centers and Justice Sector Coordinating Body was held at Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, at 08:30am this morning , and the Chairman of the Coordinating Body, the Union Attorney General U Tun Tun Oo delivered the opening speech.
In opening speech of the Union Attorney General, the “Justice for Public ” Strategic Plan, 2019-2023 of the Rule of Law Centers and Justice Sector Coordinating Body has been drafted, and it has been published with the approval of the Union Government on 1 January 2019; in today’s meeting, we will make discussion with the partner organization related to the implementation of the “Strategic Plan” of the Coordinating Body , discussion on the draft of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Coordinating Body, and discussion on the mediation system out of the court contained in the objectives of the Strategic Plan of the Coordinating Body; in the Strategic Plan of the Sustainable Development Plan, 2018-2030 and the goal of the Long-term Substainable Development of the Union government, it is aimed to emerge the judiciary system relied by the public ; so, the Coordinating Body cooperates to develop a complete strategic plan for ensuring access to justice individual rights and the rule of law; in the speech of the State counsellor at the first National Conference held by the Coordinating Body on 7th and 8th March in 2018, she recognized that the important of the different existence under the law for the settlement of disputes in Myanmar; the customary dispute settlement by the ward or village head has been existing for many years without taking action at the court; it is necessary to consider to develop such custom and practice; attendees of the meeting need to suggest to develop the mediation system out of the court and the implementation and standard procedure draft of the Coordinating Body; after approving the standard procedure of the rule of law and justice, the Region and State Coordinating Sub-Bodies can undertake the work more effectively. During the meeting, the Region and State Coordinating Sub-Bodies discussed the educational work and coordination of complaints. Additionally, the Region and State Coordinating Sub-Bodies submitted some difficulties to coordinate with the relevant government departments to the Union Attorney General, and the Union Attorney General directed them the ways to coordinate.
The members of the Coordinating Body, leaders of the Region and State Coordinating Sub-Bodies, Region and State Law Officers and My Justice, UNDP, USAID, DFID, DFAT, JICA Embassy of Denmark, IDLO, Mercy Corps and Norwegian Refugee Council which are international partner organizations, about 75 persons attended the meeting.
