The Seventh Meeting of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs by Hybrid Format this afternoon at 1:00 pm. The Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs as well as Chairman of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar, Dr. Htain Linn Oo delivered a speech in the meeting.
The members of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar who live in Nay pyi taw attended the meeting in person; representatives of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs of the Region or State Administration Council, representatives of the Yangon and Mandalay Region Development Committees, representatives of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, representatives of the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs and the Myanmar Red Cross Society attended the meeting via online.
In the opening speech, the Chairman of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar said that elimination of child labour is a big challenge for Myanmar and it is a long-term process; this meeting is being held today due to unpredictable reasons, although it is required to be held the Working Committee on Legal Affairs once every three months according to the work plan; the committee has conducted the working meeting six times; Secretary of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar and Director General U Kyaw Kyaw Naing will discuss the implementation on the resolution of the sixth Working Meeting; the second 5-year work plan (2024-2028) of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar has already been confirmed; there are 9 points to be implemented according to such work plan; these are :(a) holding regular meetings once every three months; holding emergency meetings if necessary; (b) cooperating with the relevant ministries, departments and related organizations to facilitate the matters of amending and drafting the laws if necessary; (c) holding workshops for successfully implementing the work plan; (d) giving advice on amending the laws related to child labour, if necessary, and drafting a new law to the Myanmar National Committee on Child Labour Elimination; (e) giving awareness and raising capacity building to the participants; (f) promoting capacity building to inspection officers and staffs; (g) revising the work plan of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar from time to time to adapt to work circumstances; (h) ensuring record of the functions and activities of the committee and submitting the report according to the prescribed period to the Myanmar National Committee on Child Labour Elimination; (i) performing the duties conferred by the Myanmar National Committee on Child Labour Elimination from time to time; and he urged the members of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar to present the completed matters, ongoing matters, and matters to be performed for their relevant sectors according to the second 5-year work plan.
Then, Secretary of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar and Director General U Kyaw Kyaw Naing approved meeting minutes of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar and explained enforcement of the resolution of the sixth Working Meeting, the current process of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar, and matters to be performed by the members of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar.
After that, the participants in the meeting discussed and gave advice on completed matters, ongoing matters, and matters to be performed for their relevant sectors in child labour elimination according to the second 5-year work plan and Secretary of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar figured out 4 points to resolve in the seventh working meeting and got approval for these points.
Finally, Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs as well as Chairman of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar Dr. Htain Linn Oo delivered a closing remark and concluded the meeting.
