The final coordination meeting for the enactment of the Myanmar Passports Law (Draft) was held at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw at 11:00 a.m this morning.
H.E.Dr. Thida Oo, the Union Minister and the Attorney General of the Union of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General Dr. Htain Lin Oo, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs Major General Min Thu, Director General of Legal Vetting Department U Zaw Zaw Htwe and the responsible persons attended the meeting.
At the meeting, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union H.E.Dr. Thida Oo delivered the opening speech, and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs Major General Min Thu presented that the existing Myanmar Passports Act, enacted in 1920 as Indian Act No.34, does not conform to the current situation, it lead to difficulties and gaps in taking action against passport forgery, holding the passport of others, tampering with another person’s to use as one’s own, and allowing others to use one’s own passport. Therefore, a new law has been drafted to overcome such difficulties and to conform to the changing circumstances.
Then, the responsible attendees discussed the contents of the law relating to the Myanmar Passport (Draft) section by section. The Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union H.E.Dr. Thida Oo reviewed that the Myanmar Passports Law should be enacted to conform to the current situation, and the discussion were finalized for enactment.
