The Ministry of Legal Affairs has targeted the designation of 10 township law offices as Pilot Law Offices within the new Government’s first 100 days. Coordination and discussions have been carried out to designate and operate the Zabuthiri Township Law Office, Ottarathiri Township Law Office, Dekkhinathiri Township Law Office and Pobbathiri Township Law Office within Nay Pyi Taw Council area as Model Pilot Law Offices.
Previously, 21 District Law Offices and 7 Township Law Offices had already been designated and operated as Model Pilot Law Offices. Today, the Zabuthiri Township Law Office, Ottarathiri Township Law Office, Dekkhinathiri Township Law Office and Pobbathiri Township Law Office are designated as Model Pilot Law Offices.
The Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney General of the Union said that the Pilot Law Offices are designated in order to transform the manual system used in office operations, including registration, recording and reporting into digitalized system, to facilitate coordination between prosecutors and law officers in charge for the efficient management of cases through technology and to conduct Pre-Trial Interviews (PTI) in the Pilot Law Offices. By doing so, it will be possible to establish wider connections with victims and witnesses involved in crimes, and to cooperate more closely with police officers, government departments, government organizations and civil society organizations, thereby supporting the rule of law in accordance with the guidelines set out in the President’s speech to ensure that every citizen receives equal protection under the law.
The Union Minister of the Ministry of Legal Affairs also said that these offices are distinct from other law offices and will be prioritized as Model Pilot Law Offices by enhancing the image of the offices, providing the necessary office equipment, and building the capacity of the officers serving there.
Then, the Union Minister toured and inspected the Township Law Offices designated as Pilot Law Offices.
