Inspection of Interviews of the Law Officers regarding the Code of Ethics for Law Officers responsible for implementing the Rule of Law

The Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union H.E. Dr. Thida Oo inspected the interviews and discussion on the Code of Ethics for Law Officers being conducted at the Legal Advocacy Center of the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

The Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union said that law officers from the Ministry of Legal Affairs and law offices at various levels perform functions and duties relating to the three pillars of the State, namely; the Legislaure, the Executive and the Judiciary in accordance with the Government’s policy of the State, the law officers have close interactions with Hluttaws, Government Departments, Government Organizations, Prosecution Bodies, Courts, the public, as well as among themselves, the Code of Ethics for Law Officers was adopted in 2017 with the aim of ensuring that law officers are ethical and reliable for the Public, providing for the proper and fair administration of justice system, supporting the rule of law and the public interest in accordance with the law and ensuring that law officers become competent, responsible and accountable persons, the Ministry of Legal Affairs is carrying out its functions in accordance with Attorney General of the Union Law and Rules, as the trust of the people is important and serve as an indicator of the rule of law, the Ministry of Legal Affairs is implementing its Strategic Plan under the theme of “Building Legal Trust for the People”, Supervisory Committees and Supervisory Bodies on the Code of Ethics for Law Officers have been established in order to strengthen observance of ethical standard and good morale conduct, the Supervisory Bodies conduct individual interviews with law officers regarding their compliance with the Code of Ethics for Law Officers. Then she emphasized that law officers are required to prioritize public trust by fully understanding and adhering to the Code of Ethics for Law Officers as their operational guideline.

Subsequently, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union inspected the ongoing interviews on the Code of Ethics for Law Officers being conducted by the Supervisory Bodies of the Code of Ethics for Law Officers and provided the necessary guidance and instruction. The relevant Supervisory Bodies of the Code of Ethics for Law Officers will interview law officers from the offices of the Advocate General of Region or State, District Law officers and Township Law Officers under the Ministry of Legal Affairs in accordance with the interview plan.
