H .E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union attended and deliver ed a speech at the meeting on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) held at the meeting hall of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union at I 0:00 a.m . this morning .
In delivering his speech, the Attorney General of the Union said that the Myanmar’s National Report was submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council twice in 2011 and 2015 under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) ; the third UPR national report will be submitted in October this year; the UPR Report Preparation Committee submitted the UPR report of the fourth or final version of draft to the UPR National Level Committee; the Government has been urged to establish a mechanism on human rights affairs in the UPR recommendations ; it is needed to discuss about a body to be formed and its functions in order to establish the said mechanism.
Then, the attendees discussed the implementation of decisions in the third coordination meeting of the National Level Committee, ongoing plans for establishment of the national level mechanism for Myanmar human rights and processes to be prepared for the submission of the national report to the UN Human Rights Council regarding the Myanmar’s UPR report.
The Deputy Attorney General U Win Myint, Chainnan of Myanmar Human Rights Commission U Hla Myint, Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union Dr . Thida Oo, Director General Dr. Thi Thi Myint , Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Chan Aye and responsible persons from the Office of the Attorney General of the Union also attended this meeting.
