H.E. U San Lwin, the Deputy Minister and the Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs as being the current Chairperson of the ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM) and Myanmar delegation led by the Director General, U Kyaw Kyaw Naing attended the 20th ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM) held on 25th October through video conferencing. Also, the Senior Law Officials from ASEAN 10 countries attended the meeting.
At the meeting, H.E. U San Lwin, the Deputy Minister and the Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs said that the matters related to the Senior Officials Meeting of the Central Authorities on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (SOM-MLAT) and the ASEAN Ministers/Attorneys General Meeting of the Central Authorities on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (AMAG-MLAT) were approved while serving as the alternate Chairperson of the 19th ASLOM; this is the achievement of the ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting(ASLOM); the coordination meeting on the ASEAN Extradition Treaty was held in April 2021 through video conferencing; and Myanmar participated in many meetings of the various ASEAN Sectors including ASEAN Political-Security Community; and handed over the ASLOM chairmanship to the Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia to serve as the Chairperson of the 20th ASLOM.
At the meeting, the matters related to the progress of the ASEAN Extradition Treaty, ASEAN Government Law Officers, ASEAN Legal Information Authority, ASEAN Government Law Directory, harmonisation of ASEAN Trade Laws, the extradition of sentenced offender among ASEAN member countries, crime prevention and criminal justice, judicial cooperation among ASEAN member countries, mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial matters, legal professionals from ASEAN member countries, ASEAN Law Association and the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters are going to be discussed. The meeting will take two days from 25th to 26th October, 2021.
