The ninth meeting of the working committee and working groups of the legal translation commission was held at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 9:30 a.m. this morning.
In the meeting, the Chairperson of the Legal Translation Commission, Dr. Thida 00, said that the Legal Translation Commission Law was enacted by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law as No. 25/2015; the Legal Translation Commission Law was enacted to translate 81 existing Laws from English into Myanmar which were enacted by the Indian Parliament before the independence of Myanmar in 1947 and adopted in Myanmar; the Legal Translation Commission was formed in 2016; the legal translation work of commission is separate from the legal translation work which is primary responsibility of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union; the State Administration Council re-formed the Legal Translation Commission with 15 persons including the Attorney General of the Union as the Chairperson of the Commission and legal experts and subject experts as the members by the notification No. 51/2021 on 2nd March 2021; although the Commission arranged to hold the meeting in August 2021, we could not make it because of the outbreak of Covid-19; this meeting was held through video-conferencing intending to carry out the legal translation work without delay; the members of the Commission attended the eighth meeting in person, which held on 20th May 2021 to 21 st May 2021 and discussed The Land Customs Act and The Negotiable Instruments Act; this meeting is second time for her to discuss the laws with members of the Commission after taking the responsibility of the Chairperson of the Commission; the translation of the Penal Code in Myanmar version was approved and declared by the Order No. 7/2021 of the Legal Translation Commission on 16th September 2021 and sent it to the Ministry of Information to publish as Book No. 9; she really appreciated the effort of all members of working committee, members of working groups and office staff of the commission who are trying hard to achieve successful results; she also urged the members of working groups to translate laws which are assigned to each and every working group from English into Myanmar and to give advice and comments without any delay in the future; the members of the Commission need to participate actively in discussion about laws, and to give advice and comments in order to meet letter and spirit of the original laws when translating them; the Commission translated and approved 26 laws and published from Book No. I to No. 8 among 81 laws to be translated by the Commission; 12 laws are being translated by working groups led by the members of the working committee that was formed by the Commission; therefore, there are only 38 laws left to be translated by the Commission; The Legal Representatives Suits Act and The Arbitration (Protocol and Convention) Act will be discussed and approved in this meeting and all members of the Commission need to participate actively and give the advice during the meeting.
The members of the Legal Translation Commission, Working Committee and Working Groups attended the meeting.
