The Bar Council’s Meeting No. 1/2023 was held at the Bar Council Office in Cluster-I, Building No.6, Nay Pyi Taw Goal Camp, Wanathidi Quarter, Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw at 11:00 am and all members of the Bar Council led by Dr. Thida Oo, the Union Minister for Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney-General of the Union as well as Chairperson of the Bar Council attended the meeting.
During the Meeting, Dr. Thida Oo, the Union Minister for Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney-General of the Union as well as Chairperson of the Bar Council said that the Council requested recommendation from each council member regarding the request of the Union Supreme Court that about whether advocates who violate professional conduct should have action taken against them under section 10(1) of the Bar Council Act and whether there are any objection to the application for enrolment as advocates field by 123 higher grade pleaders; the recommendation of members will continue to be discuss in this meeting; there are some cases to be discuss including the application for the enrolment as an advocate made by the higher grade pleaders who passed Post Graduate Diploma in Law (P.G.D.L) opened by the Department of Law through online; the application for the enrolment as an advocate made by a higher grade pleader who got Post Graduate Diploma (DL) which is not Post Graduate Diploma in Law (P.G.D.L) and the legal organizations that appear in cases under UN Organization; the Union Minister for Ministry of Legal Affairs and Attorney-General of the Union as well as Chairperson of the Bar Council allowed two advocates to attend the Basic Training Course in Commercial Contract(No.1/2023 ) opened by the Ministry of Legal Affairs for Officials from the Union Ministries; in response to the request to select the Intellectual Property Experts who meet the stipulated qualifications by the Ministry of Economic and Commerce, a notification has been issued for the lawyers who are interested and meet stipulated qualification to apply for the position of Intellectual Property Experts; additionally, directed three members of the Bar Council to participate in offsite Monitoring and onsite Inspection for money laundering related risk identifications matters as Competent Authorities.
The attendees U Myo Tint, Supreme Court Judge and Vice Chairperson of the Bar Council, the advocates and Council members U Win Aung, Daw Khin Nu Thar, U Hla Han, U Soe Thein, U Win Phay, Daw Tin Nwe Soe, Director General, Office of the Judiciary Supervision, the Supreme Court of the Union and Dr. Thi Thi Myint, Director General for the Minister’s office of the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Secretary of the Bar Council presented their advice and the meeting ended in the evening.
