Holding the Meeting of the Working Group on the Legal Framework and Prosecuting Measures of the Central Body for Suppression of Trafficking in Persons 2/2019

H.E U Win Myint, the Deputy Attorney General and the Chairman of the Working Group on the Legal Framework and Prosecuting Measures of the Central Body for Suppress ion of Trafficking in Persons, attended the 2/2019 meeting and delivered the speech at the meeting hall of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 13:00 p.m., today.

In his speech, the Deputy Attorney General said that Myanmar has been tackling trafficking in persons by establishing five-year Plans and now the Plan is in the third year of the third five-year Plan (2017-2021); in implementation process of such plan, Working Group on the Legal Framework and Prosecuting Measures has been implementing the suggestions on a complete system of data retention regarding investigation, prosecution and sentencing in trafficking in persons cases and amendment of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law; and the Deputy Attorney General urged the attendees to discuss sectorally in order to investigate with great effort, prosecute against offenders who commit sexual and labor trafficking as accomplices and impose deterrent punishment against them individually, to effectively collaborate on no absconding suspects and accused persons between suppression and judicial sectors, and to cooperate all members with each other in the process of anti-trafficking in persons as the national responsibility.

The Secretary of Working Committee, Daw Khin Cho Ohn, the Director General of the Prosecution Department of the Union of Attorney General’s Office presented tasks to be carried out and Brigadier Myo Thu Soe, member of the Anti- trafficking Task Force also presented a bout the activities of the Anti­Trafficking Task Force . After that, attendees discussed among each other. The meeting concluded at 14:30 pm.
