H.E. U Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister of the Office of the State Counsellor, delivered the opening remarks at the Training Course on International Criminal Law held in the meeting hall of the Union Attorney General’s Office at 09:30 am. today.
In his remarks, the Union Minister said that the course aims to promote the knowledge on international criminal justice and international criminal law for the members of the Special Unit on International Criminal Justice and officials who work for international criminal justice affairs to ensure that they can professionally support legal and research matters related to international courts. Additionally, he mentioned that it is important to settle international criminal crimes in accordance with international standards and to have human resources and expertise for the national criminal justice system and that those who violate human rights and commit crimes must be convicted under the domestic judicial system to ensure accountability and responsibility. Then, he highlighted that it is essential to develop a judiciary with a foundation of the fair trial standards and rule of law and the role of national legal scholars is crucial for the State’s legal affairs. Finally, he expected that this course would enhance the knowledge and skills of those who work for matters relating to international criminal justice and international criminal law.
H.E. U Tun Tun Oo, the Attorney General of the Union, H.E. U Win Myint, Deputy Attorney General, Retired Ambassador U Maung Wai, 36 trainees from the Ministry of the Office of the State Counsellor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the Union Attorney General’s Office and the Office of the Judge Advocate General attended this opening ceremony. The training course will be conducted for two days from 16 to 17, January, 2020.
