Launching the First Round Table Discussion: A Legal Dialogue for Lawyers

The Launching the First Round Table Discussion: A Legal Dialogue for Lawyers was held at the ground floor meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Office No. 25, Nay Pyi Taw on 21.10.2015 (Tuesday) this afternoon.

During the opening ceremony, H. E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Chairperson of the Bar Council, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union of the Ministry of Legal Affairs delivered the opening speech in which the Bar Council Act was enacted in 1926 as India Act No. 38 and it came into force on 1 January 1929, this Act was amended three times in 1989, 2019 and 2021, the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union of the Ministry of Legal Affairs is serving as the Chairperson of the Bar Council according to the Bar Council Act and the Bar Council is comprised of 11 members.

As the Chairperson of the Bar Council is the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, the action plan for providing legal awareness training for lawyers was adopted in 2025-2029 Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Legal Affairs. As such the First Round Table Discussion: A Legal Dialogue for Lawyers was conducted in accordance with decision made in previous Bar Council meetings and this is the first time.

This discussion aims to support the rule of law and justice sector development, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of legal practice, to foster the qualities of qualified lawyers who understand the professional ethics, rights and duties of the lawyers. The senior Advocates will lead a discussion on the topics such as civil proceedings, the role of lawyers, a good lawyer, professional ethics, rights and duties of lawyers, court procedures, and a good presentation of arguments.

She urged and addressed that the advocates attendees of the First Round Table Discussion should apply knowledge gained from the discussion efficiently in their professional work, assist to the rule of law from their respective roles, undertake their duties ethically whether working for the public and personal interests or practicing their profession.

U Myo Tint, the Vice-Chairperson of the Bar Council and the Judge of the Supreme Court of the Union, Dr. Htain Linn Oo, the member of the Bar Council and the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General, and members of the Bar Council, and responsible persons led by H.E. Dr. Thida Oo, the Chairperson of the Bar Council and the Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union of the Ministry of Legal Affairs attended this Launching the First Round Table Discussion: A Legal Dialogue for Lawyers.
