Union Minister and Union Attorney General meets with the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission

Union Minister and Union Attorney General H.E. Dr. Thida 00 received and met with U Paw Lwin Sein, Chairman of the Myanmar Na!ional Human Rights Commission, at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on July 8, 2025.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in and exchanged views regarding matters related to Myanmar’s submission of its report for the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), a process in which the human rights situation of all countries is regularly reviewed. The commission raised and sought clarification on various points of interest.

As part of the process to undergo Myanmar’s third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), a national-level committee was previously formed to implement the recommendations of the UPR, which was led by the former Vice President. The Ministry of Home Affairs served as the focal ministry in this regard. According to Notification No. 1/2019 issued by the national-level committee, the Ministry of Legal Affairs complied and submitted Myanmar’s third cycle UPR report to the UPR working group, as the following committees had been formed: the report drafting committee led by the Deputy Director General of the General Administration Department, and the committee on coordination with organization led by the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the 37th session of the Universal Periodic Review working group, Myanmar underwent its third cycle review regarding the human rights situation in the country on 25th January 2021. On the day of review, 106 United Nations member states made a total of 354 recommendations to Myanmar regarding the human rights situation in the country. Regarding Myanmar’s position on the recommendations, the country informed the UPR working group on 26 January 2021, these are 119 recommendations to be accepted (enjoy the support), 46 recommendations to be (noted), 189 recommendations (will be examined). They discussed that UPR working group’s preliminary report on the review of Myanmar’s UPR report was adopted on 29th January 2021 and had been uploaded on the UPR website.
