The coordination meeting on recommendations of UN member states for Myanmar at the 37th session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) was held at the meeting hall of the Office of the Attorney General of the Union at 10 a.m. this morning, and the Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing and the Attorney General of the Union Dr.Thida 00 attend the meeting and deliver a speech respectively.
The Union Minister said that Myanmar needs to report its stance on 189 recommendations to the Working Group on UPR in coming June, and requires to discuss recommendations based on the implementation of the recommendations by the relevant ministries, and follow the instructions for some recommendations.
The Attorney General of the Union said that Myanmar, UN member state, submitted the first and second cycle repots in 2010 and 2015; for the submission of the third cycle report in October 2020, the Office of the Attorney General of the Union has taken the lead in preparing the report; the report has sent to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the prescribed date, in 2020 through the Office of the Permeant Representative of Myanmar in Geneva, Switzerland with the approval of the National Committee for the implementation of UPR recommendations; when reviewing the third cycle report at the 37th session of the Working Group on UPR on 25 January 2021, 106 UN member states gave 354 recommendations to Myanmar; Myanmar, on 27 January 2021, had replied its stance on the 354 recommendations to Working Group on UPR that it accepted 119 recommendations, noted 46 recommendations and decided to scrutinize the remaining 189 suggestions and reply its stance, and this meeting needs to focus on whether it is necessary to accept the rest of 189 recommendations or not based on the implementation of the recommendations by the relevant departments.
