Holding the Fifth Meeting of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar

The Fifth Meeting of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour, Myanmar was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs by Hybrid Format at 10:00 a.m. this morning. U San Lwin, the Deputy Minister and the Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs as well as the Chairperson of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs for the Elimination of Child Labour in Myanmar attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Members of the Working Committee from Nay Pyi Taw attended the meeting personally and representatives of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs of the Region or State Administration Council, representatives of Yangon Region and Mandalay Region Development Committees, a representative of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and representatives of the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs and Myanmar Red Cross Society attended the meeting virtually.

In delivering the opening speech, the Chairperson of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs of the Elimination of Child Labour, Myanmar said that the elimination of child labour is a global issue at present and it is a huge challenge for our country; so, it is a long term process to carry out this issue as a national responsibility; Myanmar is implementing the Nation Level Work Plan 2019-2023 on the Elimination of Child Labour; in order to effectively implement the tasks of the Myanmar National Committee on Child Labour Eradication, eight working committees were founded and the Working Committee on Legal Affairs is one of eight working committees; the Working Committee on Legal Affairs prepares the action plan for effective implementation of our duties and it is submitted to the National Level Committee and it has been approved for implementation; the Committee is reviewing the development of legal affairs and it is needed to amend the laws in line with the international standards on priority basic for effective implementation; after reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the child labour laws, the Working Committee on Legal Affairs will submit recommendations to the Myanmar National Committee on Child Labour Eradication to make necessary amendment and new legislation and he urge, if there is any suggestion, to provide to the Working Committee on Legal Affairs,.

Next, approving the meeting minutes of the Fourth Working Committee on Legal Affairs and U Kyaw Kyaw Naing, the Secretary of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs and Director General of the Ministry of Legal Affairs, explained the implementation status of the Fourth Working Committee meeting resolutions and discussed the legal provisions to be applied in the child labour elimination awareness raising activities.

Afterwards, the participants discussed the ongoing process and suggested matters to eliminate child labour and the Secretary of the Working Committee on Legal Affairs presented four points to be decided in the Fifth Coordination Meeting and obtained approval. The meeting concluded at 12 p.m.
