Holding the 15th Meeting of the Legal Translation Commission Working Committee and Working Groups

The 15th meeting of the Legal Translation Commission Working Committee and Working Groups was held at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs at 10:00 a.m. this morning.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Commission, Union Minister and Attorney General of the Union, along with the Commission members and external legal experts: U Ba Tint, U Paw Khaing Than, U Kyaw Sein, U Alone Maung, U Mya Thein, Daw Than Than Yee, Dr. Thwin Pa Pa, Dr. Wint Wah Wah Hlaing, Dr. Thein Naing, Dr. Thida San, Daw Naw Say Wah Phaw; 11 members attended in person and the remaining 4 members attended through video conferencing.

During this meeting, Dr. Thida Oo, Chairperson of the Legal Translation Commission, said that this was the eighth meeting during her tenure as Chairperson of the Commission; 21 Laws had been translated and confirmed, and five Legal translation books from book No.9 to 14 had been published;

Among the laws enacted in English during the former English colonial era, there are a total of 81 existing laws for which the Commission is responsible for translation; according to section 12 of the Legal Translation Commission Law, the laws translated by the Commission and pronounced by the confirmation order will be in force with the same effect as the original text, and if a statement in the pronounced translation is inconsistent with the original text, the original text shall prevail in respect of such statement;

The Myanmar Stamp Act will be published soon as Book No. 15;

I would like to express my gratitude to the members of the Commission and each and every member of the Working Groups for their speedy work efforts that have achieved good results to a certain extent;

In this meeting, 6 laws will be discussed and confirmed: The Bills of Lading Act, The District Cesses Act, The Religious Societies Act, The Obstructions in Fairways Act, The Myanmar Territorial Force Act, The Evidence Act; all members are encouraged to participate in the discussion and provide advice to ensure the translation are accurate and consistent.

The members of the Legal Translation Commission, Working Committee and Working Groups attended and discussed the meeting, and it would be held for two days.
